Dry Eye

Dry Eyes

Dry eye is an increasingly common condition, discovered in several backgrounds and lifestyles. It's becoming more common, because spending time in front of a computer is one of the causes. Identifying the cause could help relieve the condition. Dr. Jay Rigney has an office serving Owasso, OK, Collinsville, OK, and Bartlesville, OK.

Dry Eye Symptoms

You may have a lot of eye symptoms and wonder what the problem is. For example, dry eye can cause the eyes to look red or pink, making them feel extremely dry and fatigued. You might want to rest your eyes often, because they feel dry and irritated.

Dry eye can cause eye strain, eye pain, and irritation that interferes with your day. Your eyes could water, because the eyes try to compensate for the dryness level and create too many tears. It may often feel like something foreign in your eye, and your eyes may feel gritty. You may have any combination of these symptoms. If you do, you need to see our optometrist.

What Causes Dry Eye?

Many things can cause dry eye, and you might not figure out what caused yours. It's also possible that several factors cause it, such as what is included below:

  • Medication
  • Health conditions
  • Dry air
  • Outdoor activities
  • Computer screens

If you spend time in a room with fans or too much air conditioning, this can be another cause. Don't put fans and vents where they will blow into your eyes, and ensure you wear polarized glasses outdoors all the time to avoid the wind.
